Moate CS U14 boys football team had a busy month of football competing in the North Leinster A Under 14 boys football Championship.

Their first game was played on Thursday 13th October against St. Mel’s of Longford in Hogan Park, Moate. St Mel’s got off to a quick start with the opening point coming from a free, however Moate quickly responded with a goal. Moate looked to push on from this score and succeeded by getting another goal to give them a 5 point lead. This 5 point lead was short lived as St Mels quickly fired back with multiple points from frees before rattling the back of the net. The Moate lads didn’t give up and managed to get another goal before halftime to keep them in with a chance. The half finished 3-03 to 2-09 in favour of St Mels.

Moate got off to a great start in the second half scoring a goal in the opening minutes. The game was back and fourth from then on with both teams scoring consistently, before Mels scored a goal. Mels then scored back to back points on numerous occasions before Moate  fought back and scored four points in a row to see them only 1 goal behind. In a last gasp burst up the pitch Moate scored a goal to draw level and the final whistle blew.

5- 09 to 3-15

Moate CS second game was away to St Pats of Navan, played on the Meath centre of excellence Astroturf pitch in Dunganny, on a blustery day. Moate started brightly and traded scores but Pats began to take the upper hand as the game went on and led at half time. Pats dominated the second half and despite our lads best efforts they fell short on the day.

Our final match of the group was played on Wednesday 9th November on a cold and windy day against the Marist in Athlone. The match started off very evenly with both teams putting scores on the board. The opposition had a strong second and third quarters and led the game by a considerable margin but the MCS boys did not give up and showed a lot of character to fight back in the last quarter and reduce the deficit to one kick of the ball, however time ran out with the opposition winning.
