Moate’s Best Efforts in Vain

 Moate CS V Marist Athlone

Moate Community School’s Senior Soccer Team played in Moate Business College grounds, 22nd October. Kick off at 11 a.m.

Moate were slow to start and in turn conceded an early first goal. Moate then managed to level the playing field as Jack Keenan scored a powerful header.  The game was tight and intense and some great football was played in the middle of the park by Callum Jones. The visitors then went on to score 2 goals in quick succession. Moate dug deep as they tried to regain control but could not break down the Marist defence.  By the end of the first half the score remainded 3-1 in the visitors favour.

Captain, Darcy Lawless made some excellent saves in the second half leading by example.  His motivational efforts paid off as Jack Keenan went on to score a second goal, lifting Moate’s spirits. Matthew Farrell made a top drawer clearance. Some great runs were made by Adam Donoghue and Aaron Keane but despite Moate’s best efforts a goal couldn’t be achieved.  On a counter attack Moate were caught out and conceeded another goal.

The final score finishing at Marist 4–2 Moate, an unlucky loss for Moate.
