The Transition Year students of Moate Community School recently embarked on a interesting journey into the world of drone technology during a captivating visit to Manna Drone Delivery Company. One of their bases is located in the historic confines of the old Bord na Móna Workshop in Ballycumber, Manna provided our students with a first-hand look into the future of delivery services. They test drive the drones in Ballycumber, and have operational spaces in Balbriggan and Blanchardstown as well as internationally in Texas.

During the visit, our students were not only enthralled by the innovative technology but also had the opportunity to engage deeply with the team at Manna. With eagerness and curiosity, they posed numerous questions, delving into the intricacies of drone operations and safety protocols.

Learning about Manna’s impressive track record of over 150,000 successful delivery flights instilled confidence in the safety and reliability of their service.

Safety was a top concern for our students, and Manna addressed it comprehensively. With redundant safety systems and a parachute-equipped drone designed to gently land in the rare event of an incident, our students left assured of Manna’s commitment to safety.

The issue of noise pollution was also explored, with Manna’s drones designed to seamlessly blend into the urban environment. Flying at a height of around 200 feet, the drones remain virtually silent, ensuring minimal disturbance to the surroundings.

Understanding the mechanics of drone delivery was another highlight of the visit. From takeoff to delivery, the process was demystified for our students. With speeds of 60mph and precise descent mechanisms, Manna showcased how delicate products such as take away coffee can be delivered using drones.
