The Music Department has had a very successful start to 2024. The MCS choir which consists of approximately 120 students, entered into an online competition before Christmas.

With a prize fund of €10,000 up for grabs, SPAR launched a school’s choir competition encouraging schools across the country to check out a karaoke style version of the TV ad on the brand’s YouTube channel. Equipped with lyrics and a karaoke bouncing-ball, the video made it simple for budding choirs to learn and deliver the lyrics. 10 winning schools were selected from the hundreds of  entries and have received €1,000 each.

MCS choir was one of these winning schools. Their entry was unique as they didn’t use the Karaoke track . Students provided the Instrumental accompaniment.

MCS Choir are now busy preparing for the Wesley Interschools Music Festival which will take place on March 1st 2024

Last week, 6th Yr Music Student, John Doyle Peredo competed in the Cavan Institute Song Contest Final. He had been shortlisted from 30 entries for the final in the Town Hall Cavan.  John accompanied by his music teacher, Ms. G.Foley and some senior Music students braved the stormy conditions to compete.

Entrants were required to write their own song and perform it live on the day. John’s entry “Receipt” scooped third place in the competition, securing him , €100 in Music equipment and €400 in Music equipment for his school. A Fantastic achievement for this talented Music student.
