The first year girls went up against Moyne CS in the last group stage match of the Leinster league. The match started in Moate’s favour with a free in the 3rd minute taken by Heidi Murray which just narrowly missed the Moyne goal. That was just the start for Moate as Leah Concannon burst down the left wing in the 5th minute and buried the ball in the bottom left hand corner to put Moate up 1-0.

Moyne got into the match as time went on but the Moate girls back line was incredibly hard broken through. Tough battling between the two sides commenced as neither team could break through the defence until a Moyne forward made a great pass which lead to a goal for the opposition in the 28th minute of play. The half ended level 1-1 as the Moate girls went in to re-group for the second half.

The second half couldn’t have started better for Moate as immense pressure lead to Leah Concannon slotting in 2 goals in the 31st and 32nd minutes making it 3-1 and also giving Leah a hatrick. In the 38th minute a penalty was given to Moyne for an unlucky hand ball in the box which was tucked away by Moyne making the score 3-2 and bringing Moyne right back into the match. The girls knew they had to fight hard to win this match and fight they did, a brilliant through ball by Anna Hamilton put Leah through one on one in the 46th minute and she was never going to miss, this put Moate up 4-2.

Moate had 2 great chances saved by the Moyne keeper in both the 49th and 51st minutes. It was only a minute later that Jenna O’Meara got Moates 5th goal of the match to make it 5-2. Another Moyne penalty in the 60th minute was put away before the final whistle was blown, ending the match 5-3 to the Moate girls which brings them through to the next stage in the Leinster League, topping their group.
