On Friday and Saturday October 20 and 21 a group of senior students embarked on their Gaisce (President’s Award) adventure for their bronze award. With Babet pounding Irish shores they bravely faced the inclement weather with initial dread but that soon passed. The group completed a 25 km hike through bog and on trails in the Slieve Bloom Mountains under the guidance of the very capable and kind hike leaders at Birr Outdoor Education Centre.

Despite conditions students enjoyed their time together; the South Africa v England rugby World Cup semi-final and a movie helped them wind down after a challenging first day. Hot showers and warm food were also much appreciated.

Prior to this event students completed three other components of the award- volunteering in the community, developing a personal skill and participating in team or individual activities to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. They will receive their awards in the coming weeks. Well done to all participants.
