{"id":3062,"date":"2019-04-10T18:10:12","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T17:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moatecs.com\/?p=3062"},"modified":"2019-04-10T18:10:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T17:10:12","slug":"moate-students-attend-self-help-africa-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moatecs.com\/moate-students-attend-self-help-africa-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Moate students attend Self Help Africa Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Moate students attend Self Help Africa Exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Moate students Ois\u00edn Murphy, Ruiari Casey and Jay Looney travelled to Iveagh House last Wednesday to present their BT Young Scientist project at the Science for Development Showcase Event.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition which was organised by Irish Aid and Self-Help Africa aimed to highlight the high standard of projects at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition which developed solutions to problems faced by those in developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>The student\u2019s project developed a \u2018solar still\u2019 to remove pollutants from water supplies in areas where water treatment is not carried out. The students examined the efficiency of the still at removing heavy metals, bacteria and nitrates from water samples.<\/p>\n<p>The students got the opportunity to meet Tony Scott, the founder of BTYS, Ciaran Cannon, the foreign affairs minister, along with the CEO of Self-Help Africa Ray Jordan.
