The talk was entitled \u2018Place names in and around Moate\u2019. The lecture featured a general introduction to the study of Irish place names, some comments on the shift from Irish to English in the 19th and early 20th centuries and the work of the Ordnance Survey (1825-1842), followed by a discussion of a selection of townland names, field names and other feature names in the Moate area.
