Seven groups of MCS Transition Year students presented their Science projects at the Regional Final of SciFest at the Technical University of the Shannon (T\u00daS) on 26th<\/sup> April. There was a lively buzz in the John Count McCormack Hall as students set up their stands in the preparation for the judges.<\/p>\n

All the MCS students presented their scientific investigative work to the judges with extensive knowledge and enthusiasm. After lunch, they attended an Animal Show in the Douglas Hyde Hall where they had the opportunity to see close up some lizards, meerkats and a barn owl.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Nathan Downes, Daniel Lynam and \u00c9anna Maxwell who were awarded the EirGrid Climate & Cleaner Energy Award for their project \u2018Can Native Waterweeds Solve Farmer\u2019s Feed and Pollution Problems\u2019, as well as Third Place in the Junior Life Sciences Category.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Lauren Finan and Trina Fox were awarded Second Place in the Junior Life Sciences Category with their project \u2018Reducing Laminitis Incidence among Connemara Ponies: A Practical Approach\u2019.<\/p>\n

The following projects were also presented by the MCS TY Students:<\/p>\n

\u2018Driving the Elderly to a Safer Future: Using Video games to Improve the Peripheral Vision of Elderly Drivers\u2019- Emily Winters, Niamh Kelly and Evanna Farrell<\/p>\n

\u2018Lifestyle vs Low Carbon Footprint: Identifying the Factors that Influence Public Support for Environmental Initiatives\u2019- Arina Tsarkova and Brendan Egan<\/p>\n

\u2018Turning Saline Soils into a Sustainable Future for Kenyan Farmers\u2019-Molly Doherty, Claire Flynn and Lucy Kearney<\/p>\n

\u2018Talent or Gender? The Real Secret to a Good Game\u2019 – Sarah-Jayne Hasson, Roisin Slevin<\/p>\n

\u2018Calling Out Phone Use among Tractor Drivers\u2019 – Callum Bastic and Chloe Gordon<\/p>\n

The event was a fabulous opportunity for the MCS students to develop their communications skills and at the same time having a fun day at T\u00daS.<\/p>\n
