Mini Company is a key element of first year, second year and Transition Year at Moate Community School. Entrepreneurship has never been more important to the Irish economy and Mini Company provides students with the opportunity to set up their own business. Students take their business from the idea stage, through market research to production, selling, record keeping and management.

On Thursday 9th March last Moate Community School had 5 teams representing the school at the Student Enterprise County Final in Golden Island.

It was a very enjoyable day for the students as they got to set up their stands, sell their products and they were also interviewed by the judges.

Moate Community school won both 1st and 2nd place in the Junior Category. The first place winners will now represent Westmeath in the All-Ireland final in Croke Park. This mini Company is called ‘You Rock’ and is ran first year students Niamh Noone, Lucy Keane and Doireann Keena. They produced handmade frames using donated rocks which could be used for house décor or for gifts.

The mini company that received the second place prize was called ‘A little birdie told me’, ran by Laura Fox, James Seery and Sophia Dilworth. They produced handmade bird feeders using recycled materials.

Well done to all students who took park on the day and we wish ‘You Rock’ the very best of luck in Croke Park at the All-Ireland final in May.
