Wellbeing Focus in Moate Community School

A busy month of activities took place in Moate CS recently as we celebrated a “Be Kind” focus in our school. An array of events were held with the clear purpose of promoting a positive anti-bullying message to the student body. Sessions relating to kindness, anti-bullying, friendship and practicing self-compassion were taught in many lessons including SPHE and tutor class.

Over a two-week period, the ‘Bully 4u’ organisation conducted workshops in our school. Thanks to Jim Harding and Kevin Deering for delivering their valuable anti-bullying message and experience to not only our students, but also all our staff and SNAs. Thanks also to the parents who joined us online after school one evening for this important session.

Compelling performances from the ‘Humourfit Theatre Company’ were thoroughly enjoyed by our students in Tuar Ard theatre. Our first and second years attended a performance of “The Mighty Bully Brady” and our fifth years witnessed a hard-hitting alcohol awareness drama.  Students were given insights into these topics in a compelling and fun way while delving into the deeper meaning of the issues involved. Special thanks to actor Micheal O’Sullivan who moved us with his convincing and powerful dramas

In celebration of ‘Be Kind’ week, all first years put pen to paper and composed some impressive poetry. Well done to all who took part and especially to our first-place recipient Lauren Kelly! Lauren won a €50 One4All voucher. Karissa Burns and Fionn Murphy were awarded second and third place prizes for their creative poems.

Highlighting the importance of a bully free environment is necessary throughout the whole school year. By adopting a ‘BE KIND’ response, we are working to ensure that our school is an enjoyable and safe community for all.
