Moate students present their award-winning project at Self Help Africa in Iveagh House, Dept of Foreign Affairs

Two groups of MCS students showcased their BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSE) projects at Self Help Africa in Iveagh House, Dept of Foreign Affairs on Thursday 10th October with special guest Seán Fleming, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs International Development and Diaspora.

Ella Ryan and Rachel Hamm achieved the Irish Aid Science for Development special award, for their project Banana Bandages: A Sustainable Approach to Wound Care. This included the Irish Aid funded bursary which enables the girls to travel on a schools visit to Africa.

Laura Fox and Lucy Keane presented their project, Optimising Hydroponics for Use in Developing Countries. Along with Niamh Noone, the students won 1st place in the Biological and Ecological category at BTSYSE.

It was a great privilege for the students to attend this event, with attendees demonstrating huge interest in the students’ projects. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for the girls.
