Moate TY Sensory Garden students recognised at the Garda Youth Awards

Congratulations to the Moate TY Sensory Garden students who were shortlisted as one of the five groups in the Westmeath Division of the Garda Youth Awards. The students attended a gala dinner in the Annebrook Hotel Mullingar organised by the Garda Síochána, on Thursday 20th Feb, in recognition of the positive contribution they have been making in their community. The group was nominated by Ms Margaret Mandal (MCS).

The students are benefiting the community with their continuous work in maintaining and developing the Sensory Garden in the Dún Na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park. They work as a team with the young adults from St Hilda’s, encouraging them to take an active part in ongoing activities.

The students have demonstrated a very positive appreciation of social inclusion of individuals with disabilities, being patient and kind with their activities, such as gardening, preparing and taking part in fundraising activities. The students are also working with other members of the community; Community Enterprise workers and other volunteers of the park in the construction of this path. In all these interactions, they have been proactive, enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoying their project.
