Moate CS students participate in Comhairle na nÓg

It was a productive day dull of fun and frolics, Tuesday 23rd of November as Westmeath Comhairle na nÓg hosted their annual conference and youth event. The event took a virtual stance again this year in respect of Covid-19, but this did not hamper the potential of any of the discussions, games or talks that day.

The day commenced with inspiring presentations from members of the Westmeath Comhairle na nÓg. The speakers outlined their experiences with the group and the impact CNN has had on their lives. The talks were followed by an engaging Climate Crisis News skit, that was executed perfectly and left us all with tears from laughing in our eyes. After the video, all participants were invited to discuss issues or concerns, they feel affect young people in Westmeath. It was a relaxed environment, which helped those attending the call to feel welcome and subsequently got those participants to expand on their answers.

After a fifteen-minute break, we resumed the call and played a game of music bingo. There were €20 vouchers and Amazon Fire tablets up for grabs, so there was a very competitive atmosphere. We listened to music and danced our way to being pinned on the call. To end the day, we had a vote for what topic should be prioritised by Comhairle na nÓg in 2022.

It was a very eventful day and was extremely beneficial to both students on the call and the organisers. After feedback from my fellow peers, I can conclude that all of us enjoyed the call and had a great time. We will look forward to next year’s event, which will hopefully make a return to Mullingar!
