Moate CS student competes in Irish Short Course National Championships

Leah Connell is a dedicated swimmer in Athlone Swimming Club. December 16th-18^th Leah competed in 3 events at the Irish Short Course National Championships in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. This competition features swimmers from all over the country and international clubs, who all must meet the necessary qualification times.

She opened her competition on Thursday with 100m Individual Medley where she put in a solid performance and came 4th in her heat and a new personal best time. She backed this up with a solid swim on Saturday in the 50m breaststroke where she came first in her heat with another personal best time. They did not run finals in the 50m and 100m junior events .

Her main event is the 200m Breaststroke which saw her win her heat and secure a massive 4 second personal best time and progress to the junior final where she came second.

Overall, an excellent performance from a talented and committed young swimmer with a very bright future!
