On Thursday last, September 22 the Guidance Team- Ms. Meehan Mr. Lee, Miss McCormack and Ms. Feeley took the sixth year students to Higher Options at the RDS. We chose to visit during the afternoon session which gave our students three hours to visit the stands of interest to them.

In advance, the Guidance Counsellors prepared students for the event in class while also providing advice regarding questions and how to make the most of the opportunity that Higher Options offers.

We met a few of our former students there who were working as student ambassadors for their respective Higher Education Institutes. It was lovely to catch up with Jennifer Fox and Sean O’ Flaherty and to hear about their respective experiences of third level and about their courses in Architecture at UCD and Health and Medical Sciences at UCC.

Higher Options offered students an invaluable opportunity to visit over 150 stands representing Higher and Further Education & Training Institutes, UCAS, Eunicas and Medical Poland colleges. There was something for everyone, ESB and Apprenticeships stands were most informative.

During the event there were some talks for students on topics such as the CAO application process, studying abroad with Eunicas, how to choose a career and how to prepare for college life and also on alternative routes to Higher Education through Further Education & Training.  Students were encouraged to attend at least one talk. We loved that the venue was not overcrowded and students could easily access the representatives of the many stands presenting at the event. All in all it was a great day for students with many of them leaving the event armed with literature to assist them with their research on future options.
