U19 FAI Leinster Cup   First Round  Moate CS 6-1 Mercy Kilbeggan

An explosive start to the season for Moate CS this year as they overcame the challenge of Mercy Kilbeggan in the first round of the Leinster Schools Soccer. Moate’s centre forward Odhran Lawlor set the tone in the opening 5 minutes with two dangerous shots, that forced a challenging save for the Kilbeggan keeper. MCS did not take the foot of the pedal and made countless unsuccessful opportunities to break the Kilbeggan defence, but alas with 10 minutes played, after a ferocious tackle on the MCS number 9, Jack Sheerin, the golden opportunity was laid on the penalty spot for Odhran Lawlor to strike home. The Hosts were up and running and tightened their hold on the game with a lovely finish from James Costello after a brilliantly weighted pass from Kallum Nugent left the Kilbeggan defence helpless. Half time was called, but the MCS team did not let their momentum slip, they held possession until Central Midfielder Dean O’Niell found a pocket of space, received the ball from Eoghan Curran, and stitched the ball into the top right corner of the net from the edge of the box. Miscommunication in the defence led to the Kilbeggan men finding the back of the net with a cool finish, but this good fortune would not last with MCS netting 2 goals in quick succession from the boots of Michael Okpeaye and Jack Sheerin. The game seemed like it was all finished until in the dying minutes Eoghan Curran found Odhran Lawlor with an inch perfect pass, and Lawlor made no mistake, netting it into the bottom right corner to add the icing on top of this outstanding footballing display by the MCS senior team.
