Moate CS student wins RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival.

This year saw the introduction of a new Drama specialism in TY under the guidance Ms Buggy and Mr Molloy. Part of this module involved the study of short film; drama extracts; discussions on topics relevant to society – all ranging from the taboo to the ordinary. This led to some revelations about the modern issues pertaining to young people today.

Straight from the class discussion to the director’s cut – Transition Years journeyed through script-writing and all the facets involved in creative film making. This culminated in them starring in their very own short film entitled ‘Deception’ as showcased on TY night.

Further to this, some students wrote their own unique scripts and entered them into the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Playwright Competition under the theme of ‘Connections’. Melanie Arnold was eventually crowned the All Ireland Student playwright and her play was performed live in Dean Crowe Theatre Athlone to a packed audience. She also received a full scholarship to Stagewise Drama Academy. Well done to all involved.
