MCS TY Retreat

On Thursday the 28th of March, the TY members of the Student Care Team participated in a retreat at the Carmelite Pastoral centre in Moate. The students consisted of 29 Transition years and they partook in the retreat held by the organisation An Tobar Nua.

The day began at 9am when An Tobar Nua’s coordinator, Michelle, introduced herself and her three colleagues, Nicole, Eli and Maddie. An Tobar Nua have been working with young people in secondary school for over ten years. Their aim is to encourage people of all denominations in a trusting relationship with God in their own faith. An Tobar Nua is made up of both Catholic and non-Catholic Christians who are interested in making young people aware of the value of a faith-based life.

Throughout the day the group interacted with the students on relevant topics based on the pressures young people are faced with daily. The students explored topics such as friendship with God, social media, steps to happiness, why Jesus and Positive Mental Health.  The students played games, watched videos and were guided through personal reflection. The representatives from An Tobar Nua also shared their personal stories with God and faith and the students were free to ask questions and discuss any topics that arose.

The retreat proved to be a valuable and enjoyable day for all. Students felt closer to their faith and more open to the idea of God in their daily life. All the students had a brilliant day and truly enjoyed the retreat, especially the food in Supermac’s at lunch!
