TY students from MCS win two major Awards at the Final of the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalists Awards
The judges showed great interest in the two award winning projects from Moate Community School and were impressed with their contributions to their community.
The students and their project ‘Stimulating our Senses in Dún na Sí Heritage and Amenity Park won the Best Action Project. The judges praised their integration in the community and their role in the development of the Sensory Garden.
Seven Awards for MCS students at SciFest at the AIT!
On Wednesday 27th April, twelve groups of students from Moate Community School presented their projects at SciFest in Athlone Institute of Technology.
Eoin Shortall and Callum Dunne’s project which investigated ‘The Importance of Farming Habitats in Supporting Native and Migrant Birds’ attracted a lot of attention from the judges. Eoin and Callum carried out a 12 week survey of local bird populations in a number of agricultural habitats and found that intensive farms can support a larger number of species than previously expected. Their project was awarded 1st place in the Intermediate Life Sciences category and won the Abbott Runner up Best project award.
Green Schools Awards Ceremony
Moate CS was awarded the Green Flag for Travel on Tuesday, 10th May, in the Radisson Hotel.
The Travel theme is the fourth theme of the Green Schools programme, hence our fourth flag for the school. This is a tremendous achievement for our school as it was probably the most difficult one so far.
MCS Mock Interviews 2016
On Tuesday evening 26th April 70 of our fifth year students participated in Mock Interviews in conjunction with the School Guidance and LCVP. Students were required to make an application for this endeavour as one would apply for a job in the real working world and in class the Guidance Counsellors assisted them in their preparations for the interviews.
TY’s take a trip to Tayto Park
On the 3rd of May, Moate Transition Year students embarked on a trip to Tayto Park in Meath to finish up a great year. This trip was sponsored by Moate Credit Union to thank those that had participated in the Mini Business competition this year.
